When I think of Thanksgiving, my mind takes the freeway directly to apple pie. Most years, my dad and I make an apple pie together. Mostly because he & I are the only ones in our family that actually like apple pie (l know, I know… don’t even get me started).
So, this year, when my brother and his girlfriend got me a new pie dish as a housewarming gift, I knew it was my time to shine baby!! I decided to venture out and make my own pie crust, filling, AND topping. A daunting task, I thought, but once this pie came together in no time, and my boyfriend inhaled two pieces in less than 5 minutes, that’s when I knew it was a winner, and nothing short of it.
On another note, when I initially sent my dad this apple pie recipe, he called it “an apple prumble”, or, as he calls it, an apple pie crumble. Whatever. It’s got a homemade pie crust, a delicious cinnamon-y apple filling, and a crisp chunky crumble over top. Some might say it’s…..simply….unbeetable. 😉
There are a few technical notes for the making of the crust to ensure you get the delicious flaky crust that you’re meant to get with this recipe, so make sure to read the instructions through once before baking. 🙂 To note, I recommended a food processor for the making of the pie crust. If you do not have a food processor, however, you can absolutely make this by hand instead. I just find that using a food processor helps keep the butter in tact since the heat from using your hands can melt the butter quicker.
Oh, and last thing, this was my first ever pie crust made from scratch, and we absolutely LOVE it. If I can do it, you can too!
If you made this recipe, I’d love to see it! Let me know in the comments and tag me on IG at @simply_unbeetable 🙂
