Decadent Double Chocolate Banana Bread

Beautifully decadent and moist banana bread is one of the many ways to my heart. Oh, and chocolate, too. Thus, it was only right to combine the two into a double chocolate banana bread!

Somehow I always find a way to incorporate bananas and chocolate into my diet every day. I mean, they are two of my favorite foods, after all! Sometimes together, but not always. However, in this case I’ll be eating this bread every single day until its gone, therefore I’ll be enjoying bananas and chocolate together for the foreseeable future!

This banana bread was born from my brown butter chocolate chip banana bread, but with a few glorious changes and additions. I have definitely said this before, but 2020 was banana bread’s year to shine. But for me? I guess I’m still living in 2020 because I’m still having my moment with banana bread, and I don’t see that slowing down any time soon. I mean it can be breakfast, dessert, or a snack, and it’s always tasty, what’s not to love?!

This bread is such a treat! It’s moist, decadent, rich, and so so satisfying. It’s got ribbons of dark chocolate chips scattered throughout and is filled with flavor from a couple of rips bananas. Simple but SO absurdly tasty. What more could we ask for?!

Recipe Notes:

  1. I used dark chocolate chips in this chocolate banana bread for a richer flavor, but you can absolutely use milk chocolate chips and it will be just as delicious!
  2. For even more flavor, you can brown your butter instead of using just melted butter. It will only add even more flavor to an already incredibly flavorful loaf!
  3. You can choose to use either use two large ripe bananas or 3 small ripe bananas. The recipe notes show 2, but just use whatever you have on hand. 🙂

Ingredients

  • 1/2 Cup Unsalted Butter

  • 2/3 Cup Brown Sugar

  • 1/4 Cup Maple Syrup

  • 2 Eggs, room temperature

  • 1 & 1/4 Cup All Purpose Flour

  • 1/4 Cup Cocoa Powder

  • 2 Ripe Bananas

  • 1/2 tsp Vanilla Extract

  • 1/2 tsp Baking Powder

  • 1/2 tsp Salt

  • 2/3 Cup Chocolate Chips

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a 9×5 loaf pan with parchment paper – set aside.
  • Begin first by melting the butter. Set aside and let the butter cool.
  • While the butter is cooling, add your bananas to a large mixing bowl and mash until smooth. Then, add eggs, vanilla, maple syrup, brown sugar and cooled butter to the same bowl and whisk until combined.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, sifted cocoa powder, salt, baking soda & baking powder.
  • Finally, add your chocolate chips and fold into the batter.
  • Pour the banana bread batter into your parchment lined loaf pan and bake for 45 minutes.
  • Once done baking, and a toothpick comes out clean (besides some melted chocolate), let your banana bread cool. Then, slice and enjoy!

This looks delicious. Is that pan size correct? It seems more like a sheet pan than a loaf pan.

I live and die by breakfast food, coffee, peanut butter, and dessert. It's pretty much my blood type at this point.
