It is simply no secret that breakfast is my ultimate favorite meal of the day. I’m one of those people who looks forward to going to bed more for breakfast in the morning, than a good night’s sleep. In fact, I plan out my breakfasts like a week beforehand… yikes. Overnight oats used to be one of my favorite breakfasts in high school, and they are making a comeback in my mornings quite a few years later.

The best thing about overnight oats is the amount of effort they require is virtually nothing. You just throw all of your ingredients in a jar, shake it up, and let it sit overnight. 5 minutes of prep time if almost an over estimate if you ask me! And while some people prefer warmer, “comforting” foods in the morning, I’m kind of the exact opposite. My favorite morning breakfasts are cold — smoothies, yogurt, overnight oats, you name it.
These oats are creamy, flavorful, and perfect on their own or with some added toppings like nuts, berries, granola (this one would be a great addition!) or peanut butter. Plus, they are made with only 5 ingredients! A dream?! Perhaps.
I know baked oats are having a serious moment right now… but overnight oats deserve a comeback too. Hope you enjoy!
Recipe Notes:
- You can actually make overnight oats in a few hours if you don’t want to wait overnight! If you want to make these in the morning for a lunch later in the day, follow the same process, but just let them sit in the refrigerator for at least 3 hours.
- You can use a thicker milk or even a bit of full fat coconut milk or coconut cream to make these oats even thicker and creamier – but I love them as is!
