Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

I’m calling it right now. My official love language of 2021 is brown butter and chocolate. Heaven and heaven. They go together like peanut butter and jelly…. except brown butter and chocolate. Brown butter just adds so much to any flavor combos, and this banana bread is no exception!

It’s pretty much a fact that anything you put brown butter and chocolate in is bound to get 10x better than it already was (even if it was already a 10/10). Think about it, brown butter has everything going for it. The smell, the taste, the looks… it is pretty tough to beat. Whatever can beat brown butter, though, can surely have brown butter added to it and it’ll level up.

I think we all get it. Brown butter is heaven sent.

Therefore, I added it to one of my absolute faves – a classic chocolate chip banana bread. But holy moly it gets even better. I honestly have no words except that its to die for. So, we’ll let the recipe do all the talking. It is moist (yes, I said it), full of chocolate chips, and bakes to perfection in under an hour. I am sure you’re going to love this banana bread as much as I do!

Servings

1

loaf

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup Butter

  • 2/3 cup Brown Sugar

  • 1/4 cup Maple Syrup

  • 2 Eggs, room temperature

  • 1 1/2 cups All Purpose Flour

  • 3 small Bananas or 2 large Bananas

  • 1/4 tsp Cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp Salt

  • 1/2 tsp Baking Soda

  • 1/2 tsp Baking Powder

  • 1/2 cup Chocolate Chips

Directions

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and line a 9×11 loaf pan with parchment paper – set aside.
  • Begin first by browning the butter. Add the stick of butter to a stovetop pot and heat over low – medium heat until melted and butter begins to bubble. Stir lightly until the butter becomes light brown in color. At this point, remove it from the heat and let it cool.
  • While the butter is cooling, add your bananas to a large mixing bowl and mash until smooth. Then, add both eggs to the same bowl and whisk.
  • Next, add brown sugar and maple syrup to the eggs and banana, and mix again.
  • Once the brown butter has cooled, add it to the bowl with the bananas, eggs and sugar and whisk everything together once more. *It’s important to let the brown butter cool completely before adding it to the eggs.
  • In a separate bowl, combine flour, cinnamon, salt, baking soda & baking powder.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the bowl with the wet ingredients and fold everything together until fully combined. Folding ingredients together here rather than mixing vigorously will keep the banana bread a nice light texture. 🙂
  • Finally, add your chocolate chips and fold in.
  • Pour the banana bread batter into your parchment lined loaf pan and bake for 43 – 45 minutes.
  • Once done baking, and a toothpick comes out clean (besides some melted chocolate), let your banana bread cool. Then, slice and enjoy!

I live and die by breakfast food, coffee, peanut butter, and dessert. It's pretty much my blood type at this point.
