If there is one single type of dessert, or dessert ingredient that takes me immediately to summer, it’s berries. And more specifically, an easy mixed berry crumble! I feel like everyone and their mother has a go to summer dessert recipe, or a favorite that they love to make in the summer months. This one, though, this crumble is my own summer favorite!

And I’m not at all saying that this one has to become your new favorite, too…. but I mean, it has real potential to be. Even if you have your own ideal summer dessert recipe, why pick only one?! Everyone needs a berry crumble recipe, after all.

This easy mixed berry crumble is so incredibly simple, it is even made with frozen berries! Easy, but also a budget friendly dessert – win, win! And for the crumble, all we’ll do is add all ingredients to a bowl a massage them together with our hands. I mean, this recipe takes a maximum of 10 minutes to throw together. So, if you’re making this crumble during a summer party, or on an especially sunny day, you don’t have to spend hours inside making a recipe!

Simple Berry Crumble Recipe Tips:

  1. Included in the ingredient list below for the berry mixture, is one and a half tablespoons of tapioca flour. However, a half tablespoon will actually be used to sprinkle over the bottom of the dish before adding any berries. This will help soak up any extra liquid from the berries since we are using frozen. 🙂
  2. I bake this recipe in a standard size pie dish, however you can use any oven-safe baking dish. With this, cooking times may vary slightly. However, the thing to keep an eye on is the browning of the crumble over top. Once beginning to brown, your crumble is done!

Ingredients

  • Berry Mixture
  • 1, 16 oz pack Frozen Strawberries

  • 1, 16 oz pack Frozen Blueberries

  • 1.5 Tbsp Tapioca Flour

  • 1 Tbsp Cane Sugar

  • Crumble Topping
  • 1/2 Cup All Purpose Flour

  • 1/4 Cup Rolled Oats

  • 3 Tbsp Brown Sugar

  • 1 Tbsp Cane Sugar

  • 1.5 tsp Cinnamon

  • 1.5 tsp Sea Salt

  • 5 Tbsp Cold Unsalted Butter

Directions

  • Begin by preheating your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grab a standard pie dish (~10 inch in diameter) or an oven-safe baking dish (see note above if using a dish other than a pie dish).
  • Sprinkle 1/2 Tablespoon tapioca flour evenly over the bottom of your baking dish.
  • Then, in a separate mixing bowl, add both bags of frozen berries, remaining tapioca flour (1 Tablespoon), and cane sugar. Toss until berries are lightly coated, and then add to the baking dish.
  • In a separate bowl, add all ingredients for the crumble, except for the butter. Separately, cut the cold butter into small pieces, and then add to the bowl with the rest of the crumble ingredients.
  • With your hands, combine the butter with the dry ingredients for the crumble, by lightly squishing the butter in between your fingers. Continue until rough “crumbles” form.
  • Once you’ve got your crumble, add generously over the berry mixture.
  • Place your berry crumble in the oven and bake for about 25 minutes, until you see the crumble over top beginning to lightly brown. If the crumble hasn’t browned at 25 minutes, continue baking until you get some browning.
  • Remove the crumble from the oven, scoop onto plates or bowls. Enjoy either on its own or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Enjoy!
